Mistress Mousey Designs

(a.k.a. "Stuff made by me")

Over the years, I've crafted rather a lot of "stuff". A lot of quilts have been made, as well as several skirts, dresses, a few tops, and a couple of purses. This is to say nothing of my recent explorations in photography and scrapbooking. To give you a better idea of what kinds of "stuff" I make, I've created this page. Should you wish to have me make something for you, please contact me about pricing, turnaround, availability and other useful information. Anything I've already made that is available for sale can be found in my shop at Etsy, which I can't say enough cool things about. Seriously, if you like handmade things, go check out Etsy.

I love quilting. I'm not exactly very fast at it (mostly because I tend to work on a lot of different projects at once), but sometimes that depends on the size of the quilt. Typically I machine piece the tops (and sometimes the backs, if the items are 2-sided), and then hand-stitch the quilting. Scrap quilts are my favourites, though I have been known to throw in some applique here and there for variety. Here are just a few of the dozen or so I've done so far. I do make quilts on consignment (vibrant baby quilts are my favourite to make). Contact me if you're interested.

The Sandman Quilt has it's own page. In short, it's an "impressionist" style quilt based on a Vince Locke painting of the title character of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic book. The quilt was donated to charity (the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) and earned $2600 at auction. A Death companion quilt is also in the works, but probably won't be done for several months yet.

"Shades of Red" quilt, made for Ed Clare (my old bandmate). Named after his Shades of Red Studio, former home of the SF Midi Mafia. This Irish Chain style quilt was a lot of fun to make, and not just because I stitched in some duckies and bunnies (an inside joke).

This is a quilt I made for my friend Erin as a wedding gift. To give a better sense of scale, it's king-sized and it's being held up in a room with a 10' high ceiling. Her wedding colours were mostly blue and gold, which made for some creative blending with the 'kaleidoscope' pattern.

There are several more quilt photos hiding around the house. As I scan them, I'll add them to this page.

I used to go out to clubs a lot (then I got old ;P), and while the local clothing stores usually had a hefty supply of club clothing, they all seemed to be lacking in a particularly fluffy kind of skirt that I had in my head (a "gothic ballerina" simply must have her gossamer, tulle and velvet fluffy skirt with her in order to be seen in public!), so I decided to make one. Then I had to have a few more (in slightly different colours and lengths). Then I was getting married and needed a super-skirt in mostly-white. Next thing I knew, I had a system down for my skirt making madness, and so I decided to make a bunch to sell. While skirts are among my favourite things to make (as they are all 100% my own design), I've also made lots of other dresses, tops, pants, and even baby clothes. Should any of my designs appeal to you, please contact me for more info, or check out my Etsy shop.

All of the above skirts are currently available for sale. If you can't find them on Etsy, then email me for info. If nothing else, this gives you an idea of what I like to do with my spare fabric in my spare time.

These skirts were all inspired by The Endless from The Sandman comic books by Neil Gaiman. They were sold via online auction in 2005 and raised over $700 for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

These are some other skirts I've made that are now owned by other people. The second is toddler-sized. The last is worn by Malena Teves (a.k.a. "Malena Medium Cool", one half of Lorraine a' Malena) along with a corset by Alter Ego.

I may know the worlds biggest Stevie Nicks fan. She's now contracted me three times to make her outfits for different Stevie gala events. This is the third outfit (there are no photos of the first two), tailored to her requests (though the top began it's life as a McCall's pattern, before we massacred it to make something much more "Stevie"). The purse was fun for me to make because of the tiny beads I attached here and there on the ribbons. I even snuck a skull bead on one of the ribbons.

While I generally stick to clothes & bedding, I have been known to stitch up a few oddities.

Oddly enough, these show some of the beading done for some hair clips and a purse for Stevie Nicks outfit #2.

I can't seem to get enough of basic black & white. There's something about black & white photography that screams "analog", and that appeals to me, though I've been known to capture quite a bit in colour as well. I've certainly got a lot of room for improvement in understanding and technique, but I've got a few images of which I've become rather proud. If you want "copies" of any, I have happily reproduced many of them into postcard packages that I will sell for $5 each (for a pack of 5 postcards). Click here to inquire within. All proceeds will go directly toward paying off my "snail mail" habit (i.e. postage for letters to various pen-pals), unless otherwise noted.

These boots were the final cut of a portrait series I did in 2005 and are available as a postcard set.

Random photos I've taken in recent years. Some are part of postcard packages, others aren't (mostly if there are recognizable people in the pictures, they're not available in postcard format). The last row consists of images taken at the 2005 Thunderdome fundraiser, with the exception of the final image, which is a Thunderdome influenced pictogram, with art drawn by my husband. What could possibly go wrong, indeed...

I take on lots of random craft projects, some out of necessity (like the wedding invites below), and some just because I want something that isn't really out there (like a nice basic scrapbook, only with black pages).

More photos of random crafty things as I take them and scan them in.
